Q-Park are delighted to announce the completion and opening of two new multi-storey car parks for Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. The new developments will provide nearly 1,000 new parking spaces onto the Estate and ease parking pressure for staff and patients.

Q-Park have a long history of partnership with the NHS to provide parking across various Trusts. These include large parking facilities at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. All these Schemes provided real life case studies of how Q-Park provided their expertise in making mobility improvements to both the Estate and the surrounding area.

Working alongside both the Trust and development partner, Prime in firstly obtaining planning permission from the Council which was granted two years ago.  Following on from that ground was broken on the development and the new multistorey car parks started to take shape. During this period Q-Park also took on operation of the existing surface sites and worked tirelessly to ensure that these operated smoothly and that the extensive building work happening at the same time did not disrupt the vital work that the hospitals and their staff do for patients. The new parking facilities will provide 400 spaces at Sandwell Hospital and 550 at City Hospital.

They were constructed in line with the development of the hospitals. The Sandwell site has undergone significant changes over the past year, with the opening of Lyndon Primary Care Centre, a £6 million development. City Hospital is due to be redeveloped over the coming years to incorporate new housing and commercial space and will continue to provide health services at the Birmingham Treatment Centre, the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre and the Sheldon Block.

Adam Bidder, Managing Director of Q-Park UK commented ‘We are delighted to open two new parking facilities for Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. The provision of quality parking is vitally important for the smooth operation of the healthcare system. We look forward to a long partnership with the NHS Trust.'

Richard Beeken, Chief Executive at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs the two sites, said: ‘We’re delighted to be opening these two multi-storey car parks which will significantly improve the quality of access for those coming to our sites. Attending hospital can be a stressful experience and it can be frustrating being unable to find a parking space. These facilities aim to take away that stress for our patients and visitors. It will also mean staff are able to park with ease when they arrive at work.’
